I'll give it a shot when I get back on that machine tonight. I posted (incorrectly I think) in the referenced thread.
Thanks | My System Specs | | |

I decided to do a system restore. Even though it said it failed, it actually worked.
Thanks for your help. | My System Specs

You don't have to uninstall it,
just disable it under Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features >> turn windows futures on or off
now It will not bother you any more. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba Satelite P300D 13J (Short model No: PSPDCE) OS Windows 7 Enterprise x64 SP1 Version 6.1 Build 7601 CPU x64bit AMD Turion(tm) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-82 Memory 4096 (2048 + 2048) MB, DDR2 RAM (800 MHz), max 8,192 MB Graphics Card ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3650+HyperMemory™(512MB VRAM+2302MB) Sound Card Manufacturer: harman/kardon Monitor(s) Displays Generic PnP Monitor (MONITOR\LPLA101) Screen Resolution 1440 x 900 (19" LCD) Keyboard USB Logitech S520 Mouse USB Logitech S520 PSU Batery: technology : lithium-ion Cooling integrated cooler + 3x external cooler Hard Drives HDD1: TOSHIBA MK3252GSX ATA Device (IDE 320 GB 5,400 o/min) ,

Yes, I wanted to revert to IE 8. I did that with a system restore and I was fat, dumb and happy, as the saying goes.
My restore point was two weeks old so, obviously, Windows needed to update.
I was sitting here browsing nicely with 8 and, unceremoniously (and without warning), my browsing session and everything else was closed and Windows announced that it was installing updates. Guess what? It reinstalled v9.
As far as I know v9 is an optional update so can't figure out why it was reinstalled. How do I keep v9 from being reinstalled? | My System Specs

Hello Wither, and welcome to Seven Forums.
You could hide the Internet Explorer Windows Update before it gets reinstalled. Windows Update - Hide or Restore Hidden Updates ....or you could set Windows Update to Check for updates but let me choose to download and install them to not have them be installed automatically. Windows Update Settings - Change Hope this helps,
