    Windows Live Account Blocked

I'm sure this has been posted before but I'm in a bit of a fix here. My old hotmail account has been blocked for no apparent reason and I can't unblock it. When I enter in my username and password I get the "Your account has been blocked" screen with a "continue" button. Hitting the continue button takes me to a screen where Microsoft can email me a code in order to unblock the account. But the email they can send it to isn't mine, and there's no way of changing it because it's in a drop down menu.

Somehow I got to another screen where I could enter in information only I know about the account in order to retrieve it, such as recent emails I may have sent with specific subject names. Well, I haven't used this account in years and can't remember any emails I've sent at all. Is there any way I can get back into this account? Understandably this is an old account, one that I don't often use anymore, but it's more than a decade old and has some of my first emails ever sent and I would love to have access to them.

On a side note, I have to laugh because the Windows Live ID Help Center tells me to use my phone to unblock it, which seems to make sense, until it says "you might be asked to sign in first." I can't sign in, that's the problem!

Thanks for the links, JMH, it's nice to see them listed like that instead of having to dig around to find them. Unfortunately most of those links require me to login in with my Windows Live credentials, which is the problem. I did submit a form using the second link with which you provided me, although the problem with that form is that the email is so old I can't really fill in any of those requests with much accuracy. I just wish there was a way I could get them to send me the unblock code to a different email address but I can't seem to change it.

I understand I'm not giving you guys much to work with here, but I thought I'd try anyways. And of course, I can just create a new Live ID in order to get into those other forums if I can't get helped here. Either way, thanks.

Yeah, it's quite frustrating. After sending in the form to recover my account, they replied back saying they couldn't verify my ownership of the account using the information which I provided, which is mostly due to the fact that I can't remember the information they ask for in the first place.

I'm beginning to think nothing short of calling someone at Microsoft will get me my account back. If someone knows of a number to call or an email to contact someone that would be great. I'm sure there's some way they can verify it's my account using my IP address, I've been keeping tabs on the account weekly for the past decade.

Also, why aren't they telling me the exact reason my account was blocked? It is, after all, my account. If it was in fact hacked by someone else, why would they penalize me and block me from accessing it? It doesn't seem to make any sense.

    So that is

Have you guys discovered anything worth working? My friend changed the winlive id password from his xbox and his account got blocked without further explanation, and the customer support hasn't mailed him back. He had all his xbox acheivements lined up to that, and as that account is connected with his wp7, he can't get anything from marketplace. As he was a paid xbox live subscriber the account is pretty essential.

Unfortunately, Andrew, I have not found one solution since posting this thread and actually forgot about it until you replied. Is Microsoft saying that his email account is blocked? If so then he should have the option to either enter in his alternate email address for an unlock code or have it texted to him. If neither of those work, he has to send in a recovery form with information only he would know about in the account, such as subject lines in recent emails. And finally if that doesn't work, try emailing Microsoft Support and sending them a detailed explanation of your issue. I think there might also be a way to contact Microsoft Support through the phone based on your area which is one possible solution I haven't yet tried.
