    New Message alert

Is there a way of seeing that a new email message has arrived without having Live Mail open, I have seen it done using incredimail.

Yeah, Incredimail does that, but Incredimail is a virus.

i use trillian , i get pop ups to tell me if i have mail and it shows a count of mail also ,
you can also have different email accounts monitored ie, yahoo ,gmail and so on.
but you will need to have that running permanently
    Trillian

    Thanks Guys,
Just so long as I know that there is nothing in win7 that can do this, (I wonder why)
It seems that if I want an email alert I will have to have Live Mail open or an outside program!

live messenger will also just run in your tray and notify you whenever your hotmail/live account received emails, you can even jump directly to them by clicking the notification.

Yes but only if you have Live Mail open at the time and minimized, I was looking for a way to be notified of incoming mail without having Live Mail open?

...no you don't need live mail open for that to work.
you must have live messenger running in the tray though.
It will simply take you to it through your browser instead of using the mail app. I think you can even change that if you go into the messenger settings.
