Windows Live Mail Update deleted icon and Start List entry

I accepted an update a while ago to WLM which deleted the taskbar icon and the entry from the start list. I tried various things like repairing it, deleting the whole program and reinstalling but it always failed. I eventually had to reload my entire system from a recent backup. Thinking that something must not have worked properly, I tried again today but with the same result. The Live Mail folders are there in the Programs folder but I cannot find an .exe file and have no way of starting it that I can see. I've had this problem before with WLM and I'm fed up. Before I junk it altogether or set about reloading the system again, can anybody suggest what is going wrong and how it can be fixed. Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
