Fixing Windows Live Mail Signature Images

I have new computer with Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail.

I have an animation that is normally part of my automatic email signature. I have tried to set up the signature on WLM and end up with red "x" in. gif box and the text below. No animation. I've found a couple of sites on the net that address this "problem" but alas, they aren't quite specific enough for my limited skills.

These are the instructions I am trying to follow:

I need to replace the cid: location with the file's path for my image.

I can follow the instructions until it comes to opening my HTML signature file on Notepad.

I am able to locate the line with src="cid:

I remove everything between the quotes.

I am supposed to append that path with a slash and the file name i.e., \logo.png

Does that mean I give my animation a "new" name ...or would it be \my animation's name.gif

Has anyone on this forum tried to made this kind of a signature with WLM and perhaps made up a tutorial that would easy for your mother to follow?

Thank you in advance for you assistance.

Chai

The original post: YourOwnComputerConsultant Blogs: Insert Image/Logo into Windows Live Mail Signature referred to "Windows Live Mail, Version 2009, Build 14.0.8117.0416". This video refers to the current 2011 version: How-To: Windows Live Mail 2011 Email Signature With Image - YouTube

Dear Ron,

I started laughing as soon as I started watching his video. He certainly speaks to ME about Windows Live and how "odd" it is. I long for the old Outlook Express. I have to scratch my head when I think of all the brilliant souls who likely work for Microsoft and come up with convoluted programs like WLM. The whole "live" thing is just plain annoying! The old adage, "if it aint broke, don't fix it" needs to be put up on the wall!

I briefly watched both of his videos and read the reviews. I'm a little concerned re comments about the signature arriving as an attachment. That definitely wont be what I want. Anyhow, I will re-watch and give it a go later and see what happens.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated.

That may have to do with the recipient's email settings. If they simply chose the "safety" options without knowing what they mean, they may be blocking all images, forcing them to be turned in to attachments.

Hi Ron,

Just wanted to let you know that I did follow his instructions but still ended up with the dreaded red "x" instead of my animated sig.

So, today I gave up trying to do the usually very simple task of making an animated signature for my WLM. I downloaded IncrediMail. It took me maybe 2 minutes ... or less to set up my automatic signature with the text I use in the three lines below. DONE! No fuss. Nope. Just Done!

The video tutorial worked for me in WLM 2009 using a non-animated jpg image. Sorry, I didn't notice the word "animated" but probably would have suggested the same tutorial anyway. If you post the animation you want to use, I'll try it.
