How to radicate annoying flv player popups in Firefox?

Acer desk top, AMD Anthlon 2, X4, Windows 7

Hello all,

For the past few weeks anytime I arrive at a page where I could download something I get a very annoying 3" X 2 1/2" popup in the lower right hand corner of the page. When I hit the "X" to close the popup it takes me to a download page. Actually there are 2 different popups that seem to alternate: ilivid & bestflvplayer. I don't know (much less care) what a flv player is, I'm was very happy with downloading things the way it used to be. I can't find any new programs to uninstall from the control panel or the start up menu. This really feels invasive. Any ideas on how to stop these annoying popups? Or is this just more of the "new" Mozilla advertising ugliness?

I've attached a separate screen shot for each.

Many thanks,
Alan

I suspect you have somehow gotten the iLivid Toolbar and/or Download Manager.

iLivid Download Manager - Frequently Asked Questions - ilivid.com

This is considered malware. I would download the free Revo Uninstaller and see if it can find and remove it (better then removing from control panel or Programs and Features). I'd also download the free Malwarebytes, and do a full scan. You may have to manually change your search provider back in Firefox.

Let us know the results of the above suggestions. A Guy

Help!

I'm having the same issue! I've searched my computer manually, looked through my program files, done several in depth malware and virus scans and nothing is coming up and so I can't get rid of it! I don't think the program is installed (ilivid) and I don't want to install it just to delete it! HELP?!

Welcome to Seven Forums. Windows search is pretty good, but a better search IMHO is Everything. I would d/l and install it and do a search for iLivid. It could be in appdata, etc. A Guy

Had the same problem with iLivid malware.

I've tried all the programs suggested by A Guy and none have gotten rid of nor found any negative or malicious software and yet it's still there. There's got to be somebody out there who has gotten rid of this nuisance. Can anyone help?

had same problem constant ilivid pop ups in firefox, deleted ilivid.exe , deleted registry entries, ran malwarebytes, spybot, superantispyware and AVG anti virus nothing worked .Downloaded Adbloc Add on this worked but felt might be underlying infection. Ran System restore problem solved ! no more pop ups. Turned System Restore off then on again to clear anything in its memory. Hope this works for you

Thanks for the input: worked for me also. Makes one wonder what all those anti-popup/malware programs are really capable of. For me, nothing seemed to work against ilivid except a reset.

As stated in my post I did use Adbloc plus and it did stop ilivid pop ups but it also blocked pop ups for sites that I wanted eg some banking pop ups etc also no guarantee there arent other ilivid links and possible infections still lurking on pc so safest bet revert to pc state previous to ilivid incursion with "system restore" then turn off system restore and turn on again to ensure nothing retained in its memory. My thinking anyway

It might happen that Adblock Plus prevents some site from functioning correctly. Usually, this is not a bug in Adblock Plus but a problem with the filters (or filter subscription) you are using, these filters tell Adblock Plus to block something that shouldn't be blocked. You verify this by temporarily disabling Adblock Plus, if this "fixes" the problem you are dealing with a bad filter.
Navigate to that site and click the arrow symbol next to the Adblock Plus icon in toolbar. From the menu you can choose "Disable on ..." (you can undo that choice in the same way by unchecking this menu line).

Hope this helps
