The problem started Tuesday. We had a power outage, it only lasted seconds, the computer didn't even shut down, then it happened again this time lasting long enough for the computer to shut down. I restarted it then shut it down properly and left it off until the storm went by. When I restarted it to go back online, it connected fine, but now I can't go anywhere, I've tried IE8 and Firefox and nothing is happening on either one. The page either tries to load and never does or I get a page can not be displayed message. I'm on dial up as well, but the modem is brand new and the phone lines are fine. Connecting is not the issue, it's getting anywhere else.
I'm not sure the power outage had anything to do with it, but thought I should mention it just in case.
I am completely clueless when it comes to computers so the only info I can offer is that I'm running windows 7 home premium 32bit. It's an HP desk top. Any other info you may need you'll have to tell me where to look for it.
I have read that Norton could be causing the problem so I went to the programs and uninstalled it and it seems to have uninstalled but I restarted and it's still doing the same thing. I tried downloading the norton removal tool onto a flashdrive and using it on the comp but every time i try to run it, it just says the file is corrupt.
Any advice and help you can give would be grately appreciated. I would hate to bring the computer in to get looked at if it's something I can handle on my end, it seems like a software or settings problem, but I just can not figure it out.
ETA: Issue has been fixed. A restore fixed everything.
