Unable to open website shortcuts on desktop

When I attempt to open a website shortcut on my desktop i receive a message.."this protocol HTTP does not have a registered program...install program..or create an association in Default Control Panel"...How do I do this? I cannot find HTTP in the default programs.

The default program for HTTP should be a web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, etc).

Try the following links:
Associate http protocol with IE8 instead of Firefox - Microsoft Answers
[SOLVED] Fix default protocol (http…) association in WIndows « RussenReaktor's Weblog

Good luck.

Associate Protocols

Try this:
  • Go to the "Start Menu".
  • Click on "Default Programs".
  • Click on "Associate a file type or protocol with a program".
  • Scroll to the "Protocols" section (bottom of the list).

Thanks, I just answered my own question...I hadn't scrolled down far enough in the default programs to find the HTTP protocol. Have associated IE9 and all is well...
