Firemin, reduce Firefox Memory usage

Now we need to clear up some confusion about Firemin. Firstly, Firemin uses a safe API function called EmptyWorkingSet that basically forces the process (in this case Firemin) to use less memory. Other words, tells Firefox to give back some of the system memory it’s hanging on to. For those of you who are a little more technically minded, you can read more about it here: EmptyWorkingSet function. Using this function will sometimes result in a slight performance decrease measured in milliseconds , but I do mean slight, the chance of you noticing the performance decrease is almost zero.

Not tried myself, since I use Opera almost 100%, but worthwhile if you have memory issues with FF. A Guy

ok i tried this and wow does Firefox load pages faster and less memory usage this is a great little app... thanks for sharing this other wise i never would have know about this..

I am a good test candidate for this.

My firefox uses about 500 meg on startup (yes its a huge memory hog), it will then quickly increase to about 700meg after just a few extra tabs opened, at this point it still runs fast but memory goes up over time. When it reaches about 800 it will start to slow down and at over 950 it starts stalling etc excessively.

Right now I have just started firefox via firemin with the ram limiter set to 250.

Now I have 16 gigs of ram so I dont really care for the memory usage its more to do with the fact when it starts using past a certian point of ram it slows down excessively. So I am curious if this will stop the stuttering etc. or just save ram and have not boost performance.

right now 1 min after startup its using 651meg so seems to be doing nothing.

i use firemin occaisionally when i have a lot going in FF. the memory gets up around 450 and slowly rises...i click on firemin and it is knocked down to about 6-10. so it works for sure. does not seem to bother anything else i am running. a good little program, i think.

I tried this and not only did it not affect firefox memory usage but it also has its own resource leak, it leaks handles like crazy. If you run it and watch in task manager its adding an extra handle just about every second.

my version of firemin works perfectly with win7.
Firemin-019195.. does just what it says. knocks memory on firefox from 300,000+ to about 7000 instantly and keeps it there.
