Can I Turn On Web-Favicon.icos To Show On Desktop / Explorer ?

Hi, when I drag a url from browser onto desktop or in a folder, then the icon shown for the new url-shortcut, is the chrome program icon (in my case because of chrome being my default browser). Now I would find it much better if I instead would see the favicon.ico (that little icon you see in the browser tab pf a certain website) on my Desktop / Explorer / etc. instead.

Does anyone know of an onboard switch under win7 or a program that allows this ?

    Regards,
    Frank

    Internet Website Shortcut - Create
Although it's meant for IE9, there are comments that mention other browsers.

seeking easy way to use respective favicon

thx, checking it out, but didn't find a way to use the favicon from the respective website yet ... other then of course first saving it seperately and then assigning it with change icon.

Looking for an easy shortcut to same result ... if there is one.

    Tx,

This works in IE, worth a try. If the website is in favorites, right click the favorites listing and see if there is a create shortcut choice. If so create a shortcut and drag the shortcut to the desktop. I don't use Chrome, but this did not work in Opera. A Guy

Edit, in reading, this is an IE only thing. There is a way with Chrome, but the browser window will have no toolbars.

There is also apparently a long, convoluted method that might work. See post by Oztrix HERE.

    AM-Deadlink

There is a program, AM-Deadlink, that will go through your Favorites folder, identify dead links (when the page no longer exists) and simultaneously change the icon on live links to the site faveicon, when possible. See TechSupportAlert. The only problem is, it will do only the Favorites folder. If you want to run it on another folder, such as My Documents or Civil War Websites, you have to copy that folder into Favorites, run AM-Deadlink, then delete the original folder, and move the modified folder back into the original folder's location.
