Cannot locate contacts or menus in Windows Live Mail in W7

Hi - hoping someone can help a newbie...

JUst upgrading to W7 and trying to import emails etc so installed WLM on XP and all menus and icons show up fine.

Have imported emails ok.. and now have 20 inboxes, 20 sents boxes 20 delete boxes... you know the drill... although all messages being sent from my primary email address which I absolutely don't want

On W7 there are no menus and no icons to reveal the menus. I have tried Alt a thousand times and although the hidden letters appear, I can't get them to do anything.

So I still have my problem no menus, no file, options, settings and right now I want to import my contacts the default message is login to Windows Live ID - but they aren't there - they are in a WAB file I cannot install!!

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated - I usually okay with this type of problem - but this one's got me beat. Attached images of the exact problem - one with icons and menus - the other, all missing

    Thanks

Welcome to the Seven Forums, Mike11.

As for Menus, everything that you may want is in the Ribbon Tabs. Contacts are on the left pane towards the bottom below the Calender. If you choose Contacts on the left panel you should be able to locate Import on the Ribbon.

On the extreme left of Ribbon Tab is the nameless WLM Tab that too provides a lot of options. You may like to click on it and have a look.

WLM has everything that was in the Outlook Express but it takes a little time to master, because all of us have been used to OE for years.

Adding Options to WLM Tab & Keeping 'ribbon' open?

Thanks for the information Wanchoo - I finally got to the bottom of it, but a couple of anomalies: keeping the ribbon open? How do I do this? eg when I click on a message the ribbon closes, so to perfom an action I have to open, then I click on the document again, it closes, and so on... And it's meant to make things easiers?

Secondly, when I add options to the quick access toolbar (WLM Tab?)they clear with a reboot, so everytime I open LIve Mail I have to add my options to the QAT... This is all very frustrating.

I don't find 7 very user friendly at all. XP was intuitive, much of 7 is just confusion

Like anything new it takes a little time to learn, but believe me after continued use you shall start getting comfortable with WLM.

Agree Wanchoo... but I won't start getting comfortable with WLM until I find the hidden other half of the program, which was my original query below :)

keeping the ribbon open? How do I do this? eg when I click on a message the ribbon closes, so to perfom an action I have to open, then I click on the document again, it closes, and so on... And it's meant to make things easier?

One needs to know how to operate the system in order to use it effectively and efficiently. Thank you for your assistance

I am not quite clear about the two problems as they don't seem to exist on my computer.

As for the first one, WLM opens with the Home Ribbon showing by default. Doesn't the Home Ribbon remain open as you navigate through your messages? It does for me. I hope that you have not checked the minimize the Ribbon option. If you have then come out of it.

Coming to the QAT, mine is placed above the Ribbon from the beginning by default. Is your QAT also above the Ribbon? If not locate it there. There are only 8 options available for QAT. For me three were checked by default and I have left them like that. Which option are you talking about that disappears? If you tell me I will check and see if it disappears on a reboot.

    Waiting for your input.

PS: Sorry for posting only a little bit first. It was due to a prolonged power failure (20 minutes) that my UPS could not sustain.

I don't use WLM myself, but see if this is of any help:
