You're a nightowl huh.

Yeah, we can pick this up tomorrow, at least your contacts are in sync so you can try a re-install if it comes to that.

Did you ever try the pps fix I mentioned?

You mean downloading the program again? I'm afraid my brain isn't remembering what I was supposed to do. I just recall that you were able to make it work in your email just fine.

You can go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations and scroll down till you find .pps and see what program it is associated with.

The easy way to get there is start menu, then on the right is default programs, click that and the second one down is file associations.
We can work on it tomorrow, I'm getting tired too.

I'll bet you are! It's late where you are, too... You probably didn't think you'd be doing a marathon session tonight. Thanks for hanging in there with me. I am psyched to try the power point link tomorrow. Maybe I'll be more alert.

Sleep well -- dream dreams without computers in them.

I'm baaack! Hope you got a good night's sleep, Derek. You probably need more than that to deal with me, however. Too early for a beer?

I'm going to play with the power point link you sent. Meanwhile, I now have "favorites" in my contacts file. Have no idea how it got there. I didn't add it. I don't even know what it is.

OK, I've made a big mess (big surprise). Since my WLM is 2009 & the pps viewer that was downloaded is 2010, I brilliantly decided to download the 2007 version, thinking that my computer was confused by the newer viewer. Well, now I can't get either version to click open from "all programs." I uninstalled 2010, but 2007 still wouldn't open. Then I thought to hell with Microsoft & associated my already-existing Open Office viewer to the pps files. Bad, bad idea. I does open from my email, but what I get as a viewer is most unsatisfactory as it appears to be designed for corporate types, which I decidedly am not. Therefore, I can't get a slide show to play nor can I get a full screen presentation. Now I've got two ways to not-view my pps files.

So, methinks, why didn't the 2007 pps viewer which I downloaded appear as a choice on the default programs window? Hunted around and found this:

Unable to Open .PPS attachments directly from Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail - The Winhelponline Blog

Sounds good to me. I begin the adventure, only to discover that I do not have the following part of the equation: "...\PowerPointViewer.SlideShow.12\shell\Show."
I don't have anything even vaguely similar to that. I can get to the pps part in the registry editor, but there's nothing in the folder but "persistent handler." ???

OK, I'll take that beer.

Let's focus on your pps problem.

Your contacts, well I think after all this you may just want to deal with that part later.

I hope you're not playing too much in the registry, I applaud your tenacity but that can be dangerous.

Ready for your "partner number."
No, I know enough not to be too adventurous in the Registry. I am not qualified! Just mildly desperate. The pps problem seems illogical to me. After all, you can access the files using the same viewer, so it doesn't make any sense.
My contacts are multiplying like single-celled organisms.
