That's alright, we all have to eat, unlike these machines we spend hours on. :)

On your contacts does it look like, To: John Smith johnsmith@anymail.com ? or something similar?

I think thats normal behaviour, a lot of mine are like that.

I'll install that powerpoint viewer and see if I can figure that out too.

The contacts list is just a single-spaced list of names after which are a few spaces followed by the contact's email address.

The "TO:" (forward) list is the same, only well, uh, "prettier?" There is a little blue box preceeding each name, then the name, and many spaces (not just a few), and then their email address. This list is double-spaced. I am noticing that since I deleted the doppelgangers, the "new" doubles are people I have emailed more than once. However, the first time it happened, all of the names appeared suddenly as duplicates.

Sorry, but that was a little confusing to follow. :)

I just installed that powerpoint viewer and sent myself one, all I had to do was right click on the pps and choose open, and it opened.

Have you tried just editing the contacts?

I know it was confusing! "Pretty" isn't a technological term. Let me try again:

    CONTACT LIST A:
This is the list I find when I click on "contacts" when I'm in my WLM inbox. It's not ever appeared with duplicate names/addresses.

    CONTACT LIST B:
This is the list which appears when I click on "forward" and a list of my contacts' names appears for me to select to whom I am going to forward some earth-shatterinly important email.

This is where the names started showing up as duplicates. I went through all 42 names and deleted the second entry manually. (The doubles had showed up all at once -- every name appeared twice. Boom, just like that... After I deleted them, I started getting a duplicate name when I had sent an email and the recipient had replied to me. Therefore, now I only have only three names which are duplicated since I've sent these three people an email and they have replied.

As for the pps: I can't understand why it works for you and not for me. Have I not established the link in the default programs properly?

I'll see if I can find something out about the contacts, it seems you are getting closer though.

As for the pps, what happens when you right click on one in an email? Do you get the option to open?

Yes, I get the option to open. And when I click on that option, I get the "clang" noise & the red X that tells me I need to establish an association for the pps file.

Hmm, is this the one you installed?

Download: PowerPoint Viewer - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

You can go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations and scroll down till you find .pps and see what program it is associated with.

The easy way to get there is start menu, then on the right is default programs, click that and the second one down is file associations.

    Yes. That's it.

BTW, I just forwarded an email to four people. Now I have two entries for every
    contact on my list.

That kind of sounds like a conversation view, what happens if you click on view up top and choose list?

There is no "list" in the "view" drop-down menu. Woe!
