But Windows Live email stores your emails in the Microsoft server or in your local hard disk like Outlook? In the first case that would mean having to upload tons of emails plus I don't feel safe having my emails stored in the web.
Windows Live Mail will try to setup your email account for a IMAP server. You have to manually setup a POP incoming account to have the email stored on your computer.
export emails to a file on usb drive first, then import them to you new install/computer, later.
