How do I get the menu bar on top IE9

Months and months ago when I finally got ie9 I was able to get the menu bar back on top and it looked "normal" to me. I left town for 2 days and come back and the menu bar is there but its not in the right spot, its below the tabs. The person staying here swears they didn't do anything, but I know it didn't change itself. How do I change it back? It's really annoying me. Every search I've done brings up something outdated.

Hello Kateress, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds like you had upgraded from IE8 to IE9 through Windows Update.

In IE8, you were able to have the menu bar always on top if you like, but you can no longer do this in IE9.

Hmm, is there any way to check if that update was done and when? I looked in the control panel under update history and there was nothing done while I was gone. Is there anywhere else to look? It's so annoying! I swear I was able to fix it before, like within the last 6 months when I did a search and found a site that said how to fix it, but I can't find it now. I'm wondering if I can find the update I can uninstall it and go back to the way it was before.

You might check with the tutorial below to see if it may be able to help uninstall IE9 to revert back to IE8.

The question in my mind is on how to get the tabs on the bottom - because that's where I think they belong. Unfortunately I have not yet figured out a way to do that. Having the tabs on the top is a nuisance.

How Important Is It

You can edit the registry. If you choose to do that, I strongly recommend a full back of the registry and create a system Image with some backup software.

Yeah, that's the same way as below, but it doesn't work for IE9.

Fooey!

Well I meant well. I admit I never tried it. The tab position has never been a concern to me.

No problem. It would have been nice if it did work though.

Would the update to ie9 have imported all of my favorites automatically? Because all of my favorites are there, I thought for sure ie9 is what I had before. The only difference that I can even see is the position of the menu bar. I'm just trying to figure out what happened so I can undo it. But if I have to go back to ie8 then thats what I have to do
