Windows 7: Internet Explorer 9 cannot connect to internet, Cant find problem

It'll take a few days before i complete my support ticket with avira and it only popped up after a certain step restored services.msc so maybe. It's just so odd now only x64 ie is affected while x86 internet explorer is untouched you'd think it would affect all of internet explorer and/or the games not at all, not counting windows update of course, system scan with anti virus will probably fix that.

Hope you get it fixed mate. As a last resort, consider a clean install, as it will fix everything up. If that is not an option for you, I'd wait for what Avira support has to say.

Repair install to consider, if you have the right DVD (will need to uninstall SP1): Repair Install

Let me and whoever else happens by here know how it goes or if you have any other questions or whatnot.

I think i might've found a workaround for the games not connecting to update server problem, i have x64 .net framework (4 and 4.5), i wonder if i uninstall these and then install the x86 version then they will connect using x86 internet explorer instead of the x64 version, though i'm not sure if this is possible.

Edit- nevermind, they combined x64 and x86 installations after 2.0 SP2

Edit #2- okay ran Syswow64 cmd and it can use ping and tracert just fine but system32 cmd cannot do either.

You could potentially uninstall both x86 and x64 versions, and reinstall them from the MS website. Or perhaps they will be offered again in a windows update.

They install together through windows update, perhaps, but I think I recall them being listed separately. I think MS also lists them separately on their website.

Don't know if that will fix the issue though.

Do you know what update kb958488 is? i keep seeing it in my windows update under the "Microsoft Windows" Category and it doesn't have "Microsoft Corporation" under its publisher and i dont remember installing it today...
And there doesnt seem to be a way to choose whether you install x64 and/or x86 versions of .Net Framework and it also doesnt seem to differentiate between x64 and x86.

I also found out that the x86 game programs i'm trying to run are apparently being forced to run in x64 mode because in task manager it doesnt say *32 next to the process

-edit nevermind the kb patch is an update for .net framework 3.5 SP1
-edit #2 but it does seem that the kb patch causes some problems with various software though

alright,

I don't know much information that deep into the system. I would bet a necessary system file has been deleted, perhaps by the virus, or by the antimalware barrage you threw at it.

you may have to do a reinstall after all. Did you try the repair install yet? Might give it a go.

I'll try the repair install if i complete the avira ticket and the problem is still there, the next step i'm on has me deleting a "driver" called X6va010 as well as consrv.dll in system64 using combofix which most likely hampers 64-bit system operations as it disguises itself as winsrv.dll.
