Firefox 15.0.x - duplicate in control panel pgm&feat

Not too long ago, I updated FF 15.0.0 to 15.0.1 and today noticed that both were listed in control panel program and features.

I also recently noticed some odd windows behavior - automatically switching between windows. I'm not sure if this is related to FF though.

When I decided to uninstall FF 15.0.0 it completely removed FF, including 15.0.1. I answered yes or marked the box to the dialog that asked "Keep settings" (it tells you that you'll lose bookmarks and other settings if you don't).

I thought people should be aware of this and be careful to keep FF settings if they see the same thing in their Pgm&Feat list and decide to uninstall the "duplicate".

I reinstalled FF 15.0.1 and everything is in order.

I noticed that too. I also uninstalled 15. I also noticed now that if I have two windows open at once I have two Firefox processes running in the Task Manager. Before I could open multiple windows, and Firefox would only occupy one process. If I close all instances of Firefox one process always remains active at around 800K until a PC restart, or a manual "end process". I wonder why?

Bobby, I'm pretty sure that multiple instances of all applications show up as separate entries on the Applications tab of task manager.

I tried to recreate what you're seeing and there is only one instance of FF on the Processes tab. Although I did not install FF maintenance service, so that might be why there is a difference.

I do have one app, Text Pad, that is configured to run in it's own space - that does show an Applications tab and Processes tab instance for each TextPad window.

Try launching three or four new FF windows (not tabs) - are you seeing an entry on the Processes tab for each window? If not, I suspect that it is the FF maintenance service.

It's under processes. I opened one window. One process. Two windows. Two processes. Four windows. Four processes. Only the one with 204,444K closes when I close all windows. The other three stay behind at around 300K.

hmmmm, I recall a similar problem with FF a while ago, but not so far with 15.

There would always be a FF waiting to be closed when I shut down my PC. I don't recall what version that was - sorry 'bout that. You might have some remnants from previous versions hanging around. There's also the chance that our configurations are slightly different. Not sure where to point you, but you seem capable enough to poke around in FF options. Please post anything you find that solves the multiple instances. I'll poke around my FF options and see if anything jumps out and screams THIS IS IT! - thanks.
