Downloaded files all disappear (Chrome, IE)

    Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post under, but I was on Google and noticed others have had the same issue; however no solution was found.

Computer was working fine yesterday, but today I noticed that I can't seem to download any files anymore. I've tried with Chrome, IE, saving/opening the files, restarting my computer, saving to different locations... But I'm not sure what's wrong, and at this point I guess it's too late to download a anti-malware/anti-virus.

When I save to the desktop I watch the file (named "Unconfirmed 112297.crdownload") - and once the download finishes the file completely disappears. Opening via Chrome says that the location can't be found.

This is really interfering with my ability to download lecture notes for class... If anyone has a solution, please post.

    Thank you in advanced.

Attached is an error I get when scanning using HijackThis, and its subsequent log.

    Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Can you download things after booting into the safe mode with networking?

    Hi,

Thank you for the welcome and the reply.
Currently on safe mode and no, it still does not work...

I have run a full anti-virus check, anti-malware check, check disk (x2), and system check... but nothing shows up.

Also just ran that repair option available from pressing F8 upon start up - no changes. Still can't save anything...

How about using System Restore to get to a date when this did not happen?

    And maybe a WDO scan:
    What is Windows Defender Offline?

Unfortunately I don't have a system restore point before this time (not sure why)...
I will run the WDO, and update this post when I get the chance.

I have this same issue, as evidenced in my similar thread. I found I was able to use Firefox to download my files after disabling the automatic virus scan (about:config --> search for the two strings related to virus scans)
