Full encryption in Outlook 2010

Following a recent email hacking issue, I have been looking into tying down my email client security further.

Looking at the Priveazy site, it suggests implementing SSL encryption for the incoming server and TLS for the outgoing.

While I can get incoming working with SSL, I can only get outgoing to communicate if I select SSL as well.

The information from cPanel states that TLS is a supported outgoing mail protocol, but only gives the port numbers for SSL outgoing.

What is the difference between having SSL instead of TLS selected for outgoing?
