IE-9 not refreshing after sleep mode

When I wake my 2 year old HP Pavilion desktop computer (windows 7 professional) from sleep mode with the keyboard or mouse, IE-9 fails to refresh the page it was on prior to sleep. I get the message “Internet Explorer cannot display the web page”. Typically pages that automatically update information like the NY Times, CNN or Comcast. Net page. Sometimes the refresh circular arrow at the end of the address bar works, other times a restart of computer is necessary. The computer is direct wired from the cable modem presently, but does the same while direct wired through the Belkin router. The laptop computer is able to access the internet at any time regardless of the message on the desktop's screen. I would greatly appreciate help solving this matter.
