    Problem with IE9

I have Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium. Ever since I had some automatic Windows Updates the other day I have had problems with IE9. The browser finds the pages but if I want to interact with a page - like booking a hotel room - the sites just freeze. The downloads and the problem may not be connected, it could just be a coincidence - but I wonder if anyone else has had this problem. I have installed Firefox and there are no problems with that browser. I hope I have put this query in the right place. I have also reinstalled IE9 but the problem has not resolved.

I have a similar problem and it only started in the last few days.

It occurs mainly on forums (several different ones) where it can take a long time to bring up a selected page or post after you click it.

Most other sites still work fine.

This happens on sites that worked perfectly OK before so I don't think it can be cured using compatiblity mode.

    This is very annoying.

I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

There's another thread here that has reported similar(?) problems recently with IE9:

IE9 browser load issue - cant click or scroll or type

See if you get any improvement from following those steps.
If that fails to work then try recovering to a previous System Restore point

Seems there is an issue being encountered of late but the cause hasn't been isolated yet.

Please post back with your results

    Hi Ashley

    Thanks for your prompt reply!

Well, I think it is the same problem because if I run IE as adminstrator it works fine.

I'll wait a while before soing a system restore to see if a fix appears. In the meantime, I can get around it in this way.

    Cheers

    Great stuff!

I believe the problem may be related to a recent Flash Player update which came through about the time of the MS Updates (last Tuesday).

Instead of trying the system restore, if you can confirm a Flash Player update was applied to your system around the time you started having this problem then:

    Uninstall Flash Player | Windows

and re-install an earlier version of it:

    Archived Flash Player versions

That would be quicker than restore and help isolate the problem.

Good luck, please post back you results.

And don't forget to give 'rep' to durango1 for the workaround and potential solution.

    Ashley

I did indeed receive a Flash player update around the same time.

However, having run IE once as administrator, this seems to have fixed the problem as it now works perfectly when run normally.

Maybe some component had not installed correctly and running as administrator allowed it to complete the install?

I have given rep to durango1 as suggested and also to yourself for your helpfulness.

    Regards

    Thanks

Thank you everybody for your contributions. Because it was the simplest thing to try I first ran as administrator and the problem seems to have been fixed.

I visited the hotel web site again that I had visited yesterday - before running as administrator - and it just wouldn't move on to the next stage of the booking process. Not even the spinning icon. Then I ran as administrator (had to look up how to do that as I am a novice) and, lo and behold, it worked fine.

I will now try to give credit but thanks everybody for your suggestions and for taking the time and trouble to help!
