IE 8 opens desktop website shortcuts in a small window...Help??

I have tried all the common fixes with no success,

I have tried opening one window then another and draging the second window to the full screen size and then closing the first and second windows while holding the ctrl key

I have tried to reset IE settings, all that has done is NOTHING to help.

This started happening after I just did a fresh install of Windows 7, it happened last time but it was so long ago I forget how I fixed it back then.

Surely I am not the only one to have this issue and surely there has to be a fix that works, I just wish I could fine it!!!

    I appreciate any help

This was a Microsoft response to your problem:

    Please follow the steps below:

    1. Open Internet Explorer 8, in your FIRST window and click on a link that opens in a new SECOND window.

    2. Close the FIRST window leaving your smaller window open.

    3. Drag the SECOND window to whatever size you want. The keyword there being DRAG.

    4. You can Drag the windows by placing the mouse cursor on the edges of the window, holding the right click button and then dragging it.

    5. Now close the SECOND window.

    6. Open Internet Explorer 8 again from a shortcut on your desktop or the quick launch section of the task bar and check by opening other links as well.

Your problem should be fixed now.

I hope this information is helpful.

Please let us know if you require further help.

This is what I do when that happens to me
    1. open browser and drag it to the top of the screen, that will make your window full screen or (maximized)
    2. From that open window go somewhere that their is a link that you can click on that will open another page. Drag that page to the same place you did earlier and make it maximized buy draggibg it up to the top of the sceen until it goes full screen again.
3.Now just close the first window using the red "X" on top right corner, this will leave you one opened window. Click on "ctrl" and then file on the top menu, select "Exit" once the second window closes after you clicked "ctrl and exit" the next time you open your browser it should open maximized.

Works for me everytime, hope I helped ya.

I appreciate your help guys... ... however this doesn't work. I can't follow those instructionsfor the following reason: once I have a window opened and full size, any other window I open with any link opens full size. So I can't close the 1st one then stretch the 2nd one, etc.... Besides i use IE9 , not IE8. Your solution is one of the many I found on the web. Read my original post. I tried them all. None works. Thisproblem doesn't happen in Safe mode though... No big deal...... This W7 Pro 64 is full of bugs....
I miss my XP pro..... ...

I think I may have figured this problem out. open a desktop shortcut, resize it by dragging it to the full screem then
from that page click on a link and chose open "new window" not New Tab then drag it to the full screen, now click ctrl and close
the first page you opened by clicking on file>exit then do the same for the second window.
This worked for me and now my shortcuts open full screen.!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hope this helps

This apparent problem can, or at least should be cured simply. On the small window, click to maximize and then close, next time it should open on max. If not try installing the latest itteration of IE which is the now ageing 9. Version 8 was so long ago.
