making a webmail account my default email client

In XP I made my webmail account the default email client -- so that when I clicked on any sort of "email us here" llnk on a website it would take my to my webmail automatically. I want to do that in Windows 7 also but I can't find where to do it. In the "Set default programs" part of the Control Panel it only gives me one choice: "Use my current email program". I don't have any resident email client.

You could install Windows Live Mail. That will access web based e-mail accounts.

    Hi rkazero,

I don't know anything about the app mentioned in this video, bt it sounds as though ti fits the bill.

It is up to you to decide if you want to download and use it. It most likely makes chenges to the registry - so back it up first. The MAILTO protocol affects links for eMail on web pages and the filetype .eml is normally associated with an eMail client. I don't know if you can set a web basedclient to open local .eml filetypes

Anyway.... post back if you use this and let everyone know if it worked - thanks.

I followed Slartybart's recommendation and downloaded Gmaildefaultmaker. It was a breeze and now Yahoo mail is my default email client. Thx everybody for the help. -rkazero

    GmailDefaultMaker and Outlook.com

Thanks very much to Slartybart for making me aware of GmailDefaultMaker. I've been trying to use Outlook.com as my web-based email provider. To do that this info will help you: GmailDefaultMaker - View Issue #8235: Outlook.com compatibility

I hope that's helpful to someone.
