can cookies be stolen?????

i was wondering if somebody gains physical access to my computer and steal my yahoo cookie and copies it to his computer, will his browser allow him login to my yahoo account using the stolen cookie

kindly explain in detail the security mechanism of internet cookies

Passwords should be in credentials under user accounts, which will itself be password protected. Pinching of cookies shouldn't give access.
