IE8 - Tab brings up blank page

Clicking on the tab next to the open window tab brings up a blank page.

Went to Internet Options - Tabs - Settings - When a new tab is opened, open: (Selected) Your first home page - OK - OK. No joy.

Followed the advice of an HP employee apropos the problem but when I got to the Right click Tabs; no 'Tabs' was visible anywhere and got into a serious bog-hole during the search.

I would be grateful for your assistance.

Hello WB,

If you have not already, you might see if closing and reopening IE after setting the new tab option may help.

If not, then you might consider completely resetting IE.

Of course, you might also consider upgrading to IE9 by installing all of your Windows Updates.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Thanks for that Shawn but that was done. I don't want IE9 back because of all the bloody headaches I got because of it.
I just want a system that works when I ask it and not have to spend two and three hours fart-arsing around.
Thanks for your advice though. I appreciate the thought.

Best regards....WB

Did you try resetting IE as suggested by Brink, and that didn't help?
From what I've found the problem might be caused by some IE toolbar or addon that got installed on your PC.

You could also try booting in Safe Mode and see if you have the problem.
Use Option One in this tutorial:

It is caused by the out-of-band IE update KB2799329 (MS13-008) that came out last week. If a prior cumulative IE update, KB2761465 (MS12-077) is not installed before this update it causes IE to open a blank page only. We have solved it by uninstalling KB2799329, install KB2761465, then re-install KB2799329.

Thanks for that ITSpec. I appreciate the directions; except I have no idea how to do what is recommended in the instructions you sent.
I guess now my question is; how do I do those three things?

Best regards....WB
