Windows 7 - Firefox crashes constantly in Windows 7, auto restart?

Any more on this? I have Windows 7 x64 and Firefox 3.6.6. Here's the situation:

1. It doesn't matter whether you RUN Firefox or not. But let's say you do.
2. Close down FF from the top left Firefox logo and "close".
3. Do a total CClean of your entire system, including a real scour of FF files.
4. Open Task Manager. In Processes you will see probably 3 firefox.exe*32 entries. (I know; I know; this is SO wrong. And remember that CCleaner has completed its work too.)
5. Kill all those firefox.exe*32 entries.
6. Now run CCleaner, TuneUp Utilities, you name it, again and again. Run them all night if you want.
7. Check your startup menus and look at your list of start programs, just to be sure.
8. Okay? Firefox is but a distant memory.
9. Restart Windows 7.
10. On your desktop, a popup: "Firefox has stopped working." Kill it. Another one. And probably a similar one for Explorer. And under that, maybe a third Firefox one.

And Firefox, and Explorer, seem to both work just fine. The only evidence of anything wrong is the little pile of popups themselves. Firefox seemed to run and to stop perfectly. (Except that CCleaner noticed it was still running, and told you so; that's when you found the Task Manager entries.)

I don't think this has anything to do with add-ons. Actually I'm wondering if it's a Windows 7 glitch.

What really makes it such a nuisance is that FF was theoretically absolutely completely totally ceased & desistified long before you closed down Windows.

I tell you now, as a long term FF fan this is not a feature of Firefox. More likely you've picked up a virus. FF just does not behave like that. In fact I highly doubt it even happened to you. I cant see the point of any virus doing that to you. Do you not think that if FF actually behaved like that, it wouldn't be all over this forum. To quote a friend of mine "Screenshot or it didn't happen"

Now the crashing thing. Thats a completely different issue. It seems to have gone away in the latest 4.0 Beta though

I've been using Firefox since it was Firebird. I worked with Firebird for a long time.

The problem in fact IS all over Google.

On my XPs on the same box, I'm running 2 Firefox 4.0 betas and 1 FF 3.6.6 on my XP 64, and one FF 3.6.6 on my XP 32. Same box as Windows 7. They run perfectly. The 3.6.6 profiles are clones.

I'm also running the same FF 3.6.6 on my Vista machine and another XP 32-bit machine. All elements identical.

No, it is not a virus or badware.

A work around for this issue I found is to change the properties of the Firefox application to Vista SP2 compatability mode. I also found this work around can be applied to other [COLOR=#0072bc !important][COLOR=#0072bc !important]applications[/COLOR][/COLOR] that wont install or just crash on loading. I have the latest version of Firefox with addons enabled and I have had no further problems.

I run Windows 7 with Firefox 3.6.13 and IE8 64 bit version although 32 bit is there as well. My query is twofold-

1) Can I use this 'workaroun' juryrig to solve my Firefox/IE8 crashings?

2) How exactly do I execute these suggestions? Changing properties and Vista SP2 compatiility mode are like ancient Sumerian cuneiform to me!

I have managed to speed up Firefox with FastFox and FasterFox2 addons and oftware as wel as an about:config series of controlled tweaks. That just means it's 3 times faster and crashes 3 times sooner than it was doing! Can anyone help me out of this mess?

IE8 constantly asks me to login to 3rd party URLs when I am already logged in. However, it doen't crash nearly as much as Firefox does. Oh please Kami grant us a boon and release Firefox 4 early!! Thanks a lot and sayonara for now- JKMc/keimanzero-Brookhaven PA 19015-1903-USA
