Ok, when you have the time - your choice.
From your netbook test, it might not be a virus, but since ESET found some, it can't hurt to run the scanners/cleaners.

The ESET online scanner does remove threats it finds, so no... you don't have to buy the commercial pkg.

Try downloading TDSSkiller from here, then install and run.
How to disinfect a compromised system
  1. Download the TDSSKiller.exe file on the infected (or possibly infected) computer;
  2. Run the TDSSKiller.exe file;
  3. Wait until the scanning and disinfection completes. A reboot might require after the disinfection has been completed.

Have you joined Office 365 or one of their paid Business programs ?

Microsoft does not ask for a credit card for a free hotmail account
Microsoft only asks for a credit card if you have joined Office 365 or one of their paid Business programs
You might try resetting your MS account password here: https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx
--> I would hold off on this until the Malware scans give you a green light, a clean bill of health.

I'm not sure how this might affect other things on your system, so proceed at your own risk.

If you only use Hotmail, the risk is low - only hotmail will be changed. If you use your MS acount for many applications (ie. Live Essential apps) all of those apps will most likely have to be reconfigured to use the new passwrod.

If it is happening on another computer. Then I doubt it is a virus or Trojan on your computer
Then it means your account has been compromised, if you cannot reset your password you can call Microsoft and they will go into the account and see what is going wrong
You still should run the scans on the other machine to make sure it is clean anyway

Viruses have this nasty habit of getting on other computers, especially if you visit the same places on both. I won't rule out a virus until the scans report clean - furthermore, I suggest running the same scans on your netbook. There are a lot of ways Malware transfers occur (eMail, Website visits, flash drives...) .

I don't mean to alarm you - I just think your machines should be checked. If the scans report clean, you'll feel better, if they do their job.... you'll feel better.
