I've got IE10 installed on my main PC but I can't upload pics to this or other sites that I usually upload pictures to. I never see the dialog box that lets me browse for the pictures...

Above is the exact error that I am getting.

Perform the following steps to install Internet Explorer 10.

    Step 1:

Place the computer in Clean boot state.

You can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

To set the computer in clean boot, follow the steps from the link: How to perform a clean boot

Note: After checking in clean boot, follow step: 3 from the article to reset the computer to normal boot.

    Step 2:

Install the prerequisites manually before installing Internet Explorer 10.

Refer to the link “How to obtain prerequisite updates for Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 that fail to install” to install prerequisite for Internet Explorer 10.

    Step 3:

Download and install Internet Explorer 10 manually from Microsoft download centre and then check if you are able to install it.

You can download Internet Explorer 10 from this link “Download Internet Explorer 10”.

    Step 4:

After installing Internet Explorer 10, reset the computer to Normal boot.

Follow step: 3 from the link “How to perform a clean boot” to reset the computer to normal boot.

I hope this helps you to fix the issue. If the issue persists or you have any other issues with Windows, please do post it in Microsoft Community. We would be happy to help you.
Someone at the MS site suggested I try this. It did nothing but remove my av and caused me more headaches. I am now done with trying to instal IE 10 and I have also removed IE 9.
LOL ...... They suggested to me that I do the very same thing, minus your headaches it did absolutely nothing for me ...... still the very same results, and I tried all four steps.

I just tried it in VMware Win 7 64 bit with IE 10 installed then got the shell32.dll from C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and used my bitmaps and #42 UIFILE, did the ownership, permission, rename, replaced them, did restart and IE 10 works.
I use Restorator 2007 not Resource hacker, I have had trouble sometimes with system files after using Resource hacker.

That's interesting Jerry. On the back of what you said I just tried again, this was my process

Reset all system files and ran sfc /scannow until it reported no errors
Installed the platform update and IE10 both installed and IE10 opened fine
Changed 1 icon in the C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 No #4 using the same method you have except using resource hacker.
Rebooted and IE10 is broken just hangs. Very Odd

What does your details tab look like on the shell32.dll it looked to me as though it had been updated With IE10 and I wondered if that was the issue, this is pre IE10,

Well don't want to start another thread on this but I want to get back to IE9 and I cannot find IE10 in Programs and Features.

I am only doing this because of a work related site that I cannot access in IE10 with or without Java as the program the department uses is Oracle based

Plus I find the constant slow downloading of web pages and the flicking of the page up and down before it finally stops pretty annoying.

That doesn't show any change which is odd I'm sure when I updated the product version changed after IE10 was installed. The reason is Im thinking if they have updated the shell32.dll all my icon .dlls are all made from the original .dlls which I just swap over after an install, if the versions have changed I maybe need to remake them with the new shell32.dll. Although that doesn't explain why it didn't work before changing 1 icon in the new .dll. Im confused

EDIT - Has IE10 been removed from windows update I thought I would give it another go but im not been offered it through the update
