How to ungrade to IE9 in Win 7

    Hi
Does anyone any clues as to why my Pc will not update to IE9
I am running Win Prof 7, 32bit, with Kasperskey antivirus installed.
    4Gb memory .
    Multi core CPU
Service pack 1 installed, and Win update is showing nothing outstanding, or missing.

When I try to update to IE9 (not too sure which IE is current, but I thnk it is about No7.) it takes the download OK. Tells me there are a couple of progs running and gets permission to halt them, then starts the installation, but it then stops and says that it can't continue. It produces a plan to follow if an installation fails. I have gone through this to the best of my ability but still the installation fails.
This happens even if I disable Kasprsky.
Is there something obvious that I'm missing.....
    Hope someone can help
    Regards Harry

Hi scommstech, welcome to 7F! :)

Your machine may not be ready to have IE9 installed, see: Troubleshoot problems when you cannot install Internet Explorer 9
I suspect your issues may lie in steps #2 and 3, but walk through them all to make sure your machine is ready.

    Post back on your progress.

    Hi Anak

To the best of my knowledge I have done steps 2, and 3..
Step 2, Install required software components..What are these software components. I can only use update to check if Win7 is up to date, which it says it is.
Step 3 is similar. Update tells me that there is nothing else required.

IE 9 is then downloaded OK, but something else is blocking its installation.........

I won't be able to retry for a couple of days but if I can find an error message that is different I will get back.

    Thanks everbody

There are two places you can check other than relying on Windows Update to tell you, "You are Up to Date".

    • You have to go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\View update history, and search for KB2454826
    • You also have to check for it in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\Installed Updates
    • This is all it says on my system (KB2454826) Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2454826) yours would be 32bit

If you don't see it you can either force a check for updates or find the prerequisites for IE9 here:
A performance and functionality update is available for Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2

Just watch, the new prerequisites are coming out for IE10 today or tomorrow with March's patch Tuesday and you don't want to mix them up, you could hide IE10's for now until you settle IE9.
