Interesting you can continue to use the at&t(sbc) email account after switching to Comcast.
ZoneAlarm (ZA) has a firewall and you found ZA is not working now.
Check what firewall you have running in Control Panel > Action Center.
Just guessing, but I wonder if you have a port(s) blocked because of a ZA problem.
at&t does use Yahoo mail, so while confusing, it should not be a problem.
You can try to sign in to at&t online email and see if your account is ok.

Well mate I am with David with his posts and myself would leave the Zone Alarm alone if it were my rig and just stay with Avast.
In fact personally I would dump the Zone Alarm and just keep Avast running - if you want to you can always reinstall it.
I don't know what the others think?
ok, i will turn off zone alarm. however i had been using it and avast together for quite a while.
i don't understand this:

why would i have an account with attt if it is no longer my isp?
i turned on windows defender

ok, i conformed my setting to those roderunner suggested. am receiving incoming but still cannot send out. will turn off windows defender firewall right now as i see it was suggested above not to have to avs running at one time.
A firewall is not an Anti Virus.
You do want ONE Firewall running.
Just make sure you do not have Windows Firewall AND ZoneAlarm Firewall running at the same time.
