Searching using the reported string PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0753&SUBSYS_360A103C&REV_A2
frequently points to HP & Nvidia. E.g.

Just found this quotable MS comment:
PS: IE10 is an Optional, non-security update. There is no support for IE10 installation problems yet so best stick with IE9 for now.

Yep, wish I'd just done that. Thanks, MS..

The Bear and I are in email contact with MS on another issue involving IE10 - potentially big enough to force a new version to be put up for download .

The PCI\ codes are those for the full nForce chipset - not necessarily for the USB drivers of it.

Hi Noel, yes, from what I'm reading, it's a big complex messy issue for some users.
    - Aero not working, Firefox doesn't work, some sites or features don't work.
No install possible with some graphics cards... prerequisite is KB2670838, not offered by Win Update in some cases. "KB2670838 is a pre-IE 10 upgrade required for some components of DirectX for Win 7, and Windows Imaging Components."

(I don't have KB2670838 installed, and it hasn't been offered- but IE10 has. Hmm.)

Here, MS actually does offer assistance:
Troubleshooting Internet Explorer 10 (IE10) Installation - Sysnative Forums

    "IE 10 for Win 7 - not

KB2670838 is a pre-IE 10 upgrade required for some components of DirectX for Win 7, and Windows Imaging Components. Reports are this KB is not compatible with Firefox, and some video cards. Use with great caution till Ms. Bradley has given her blessing. Your HP G27, if it is 3 years old, may not be too compatible with IE 10 without certain HP BIOS and/or video updates. " (example case)

"In the meantime, Microsoft said it’s working to resolve the issue. Affected computers come from companies including Sony, HP, Dell and Lenovo."

I'm guessing (having updated everything anyway) the PnP error is a byproduct of attempting to install IE10, and a relic of that is IE10 is shown as an installed component, which I can't uninstall.

Time to get on with other things while things settle down..

Report your IE10 logs to Microsoft after a failed install:

See Susan Bradley's post here: (MVP)

IE 10 Installation Fails - Neutral package installation failed

To remove IE10 from Control Panel, Programs and Features, Turn Windows Features On or Off

After IE10 install failed, I was left with IE9 running, but in Control Panel, Turn Windows Features On or Off, where you would expect to see IE9 listed, IE10 was still shown.
Unticking this didn't remove IE10..fair enough, IE10 hadn't been installed.

This command (run from an elevated command prompt) did remove IE10 and reinstate IE9 in this list

    FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*10.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

Those appear to be Graphics drivers - not Chipset drivers, which are vastly different things.
(the link is broken, by the way)

Hi Noel, not sure which link you're referring to.. I've checked the two in my last posts, and these work for me (and I'm not logged in to those fora).

So here's Susan Bradley's post about sending in logs for failed IE10 installs in case you can't see it (feel free to delete this if quoting from another forum isn't appropriate)

    Quoted from Microsoft TechNet Forums

    "
For anyone that can't get IE 10 installed
Instructions for the end user would be to:

    • Copy GetLogs_local.bat to desktop
    • Run elevated
    • Send back the SetupFailureLogs folder that the script creates

http://sdrv.ms/11FIHrc <<< download the bat file from there
Zip up the folder that ends up on your desktop and send it to susan-at-msmvps.com (change the -at- to @)"

VistaKing - thanks- yes, that's the 2009 driver from HP. Which I was using. The one I'm using is Feb 2013. (Yes, I'm aware of the risk of using drivers for laptops not released/characterised by the manufacturer). I only tried it in the (almost certainly misplaced) hope of resolving what is likely a non trivial issue.

(Could the prompt be because I'm using a 'non-HP approved' driver?)

Interestingly Uniblue's Driver Scanner identifies 3 drivers as out of date, including the graphics driver. (& yes, same comment as above goes for randomly using driver scanners on laptops- especially the graphics driver).

Driver My version My driver date New version New driver date
    PCI bus driver 6.1.7601.17514 21/6/06 1.0.6.245 16/1/12

    NVidia 8200M 9.18.13.1307 9/2/13 9.18.13.1422 14/3/13

    Nvidia Nforce 73.3.0.0 4/3/10 73.3.5 12/8/10
    Networking Controller

The PCI driver version looks strange.
