Ahhh, sounds like something particular with certain sites, rather then all Captcha. You might try the offending site(s) in compatibility mode

Thank you, yes I have tried compatibility mode with no success. I have also tried the developers tool window (Shift F12) and having select IE 8 and also IE 9 still with no success.
Thank you for all your assistance though and the links where it is working perfectly so therefore my thinking is only some form of technical aspect with Yahoo's site on some browsers.

You probably done this, but what about clearing your history/cookies? Below is a "how to" link:

If nothing works, then you could try this on how to downgrade to IE 9. I have not tried it and can not confirm whether this will affect your PC. Do at your own risk.

And I would definitely recommend that you get a new web browser, such as Google Chrome. At least try it.
