    Open .pps files in email

Have been reading & searching for hours & really would appreciate some help please. I uninstalled Microsoft Office (trial) and installed Microsoft Office Power Point Viewer 2007. In ctrl panel - associate file type with a program, I selected .pps and then Microsoft Office Power Point Viewer but it would just drop down to .ppt and wouldn't work. It said that either it could not find it or it was invalid. I have tried everything imaginable but to no avail, but did come across somewhere that it said that one needs Microsoft Office compatibility pack for Word, Excel and Power Point file formats and provided this site: Download Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint File Formats from Official Microsoft Download Center. Not sure if this is what I really need and which to choose and need some guidance please. Just don't want to install the wrong thing or something I don't need.

All I want is to be able to open .pps files in email and hopefully don't need to install Office, Excel etc. to do that.
Thanks in advance. Hope that this post is in it's proper category.

Make sure that you've completely removed the trial version of Microsoft Office. Failure to do so could result in a damaged or corrupt install of the PowerPoint Viewer. This Microsoft KB article gives three other ways to uninstall Office besides Control Panel > Programs and Features.

How to uninstall or remove Microsoft Office 2010 suites

I would next uninstall the PowerPoint Viewer just in case it was corrupted in some way. Then try downloading/installing again from the Microsoft Download Center.

Download PowerPoint Viewer from Official Microsoft Download Center

If by chance this doesn't correct the problem, you might consider one of two full (and free) office suites that are almost 100% compatible with Microsoft Office.

    Features » LibreOffice

    OpenOffice

And this article gives some more info about .pps files. Some could be malware, while others may be text files.

Most .pps files are just text files, and will open in Notepad. A Guy

marsmimar - Searched in Iobit and Revo for Microsoft Office and there was no reference to it. Uninstalled power point viewer 2007 and reinstalled your link for another install, then associated .pps to power point viewer and it opened up my .pps emails. :)

In C:\prog. files(86), Microsoft Office is listed. On expanding there is MS office 14 and MS components, pptview and afew others. Should this be safe to delete now?

Thank you very much for your help, very appreciated. Libre Office looks quite impressive - thanks.
