Cannot Print Using IE - Firefox Prints Fine
Puzzled by this one - a customer had me look at his Dell 64 bit Windows 7 laptop. I don't remember exactly what model of printer - some sort of HP connected with a USB cable. It prints anything from his Documents and Pictures folders, but nothing at all from IE9.
I went to the Temp folder (%temp%) and checked for the existence of the Low folder. It was there, but I deleted it anyway and recreated it, reopened IE9 and tried to print from it. No go.
I then opened an elevated command prompt and ran ICACLS %temp%\Low /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low.
It did nothing but give me an invalid parameter error on setintegritylevel.
I then downloaded an IE repair tool from Cnet and just ran the part of it that 'fixes' IE9. Didn't work.
I then downloaded Firefox. It prints perfectly from there.
An admonition to use Firefox instead of IE should have ended it, but he really, really wants to use Internet Explorer. I downloaded a fresh IE9 and uninstalled the existing IE9, taking us back to IE8. Nope, can't print from there, either.
I then installed the fresh IE9 and crossed my fingers......... No.
I give up. I'm not going to reinstall his OS just for this. He is grudgingly going to try Firefox, but he did mention that a couple of months ago his son was messing with the laptop, and he traces the non-internet printing to that time period. Of course that's too far back for a viable restore point.
Anyone have any thoughts?
