In this case, the OP just didn't understand what compatibility mode/view meant. We knew it was in IE8, but (it seemed) the OP thought it was related to installing an application. Sometimes it's easy for people with Windows 7 experience to forget that not everyone knows the latest jargon and terms. (Not to mention that "compatibilty mode" is used during application installation, and it's also used for IE8 rendering - a tad confusing unless everyone knows exactly what's meant by the term.)

The problem was being taken seriously, and like I said you were served with suggestions.
If you didn't understand how to execute our suggestions, you should have just asked how to.

But your only responses were repeating of the initial post,
and remarks like "I thought of that" and then repeating the initial post again.

That's what I told you in my first post.
That you should try the suggestions we made.

And yes, to make it not a too harsh statement I rapped it in a bit of humor.
Couldn't foresee the problem had also affected your sense of humor.

But then you come back and say we're jerks.
If I were a mod, I would have kicked you there and then, but lucky for you I am just a jerk.

But seriously, people like you make me a little less helpful every time,
until my bozone filter doesn't allow anyone to pass through anymore.

Looks like you will wear the gold cherry this week. It has an odd effect on the tolerance of nonsense.

No one can force the OP to follow a valid troubleshooting process. No one can explain to a casual user why a problem unique to the user must be examined in a particular order, especially if the user is smarter and more knowledgeable than the people he is turning to for help.

Always remember the corelation between self-promotion and chosen username and capacity.

If an OP lacks the maturity and capacity to follow a basic troubleshooting process, it stands to reason that they cannot follow reason. It is best to allow them to solve the problem with a shotgun instead of a scalpel. When the underlying problem continues to present challenges via other symptoms, there is the chance that the offending OP will leave the forum entirely, cursing the morons he found here. There is also the chance that the light will come on and the OP will make the connection between the effect and the cause - and actually learn something.

In the meantime, knowledgeable professionals must continue to address the posted problems using valid and time tested troubleshooting methods. The OP is likely not the only user who needs assistance with a given problem. There are intelligent users with good hearing that will benefit from a professional and surgical solution.
