Tonight, I realized that I have not been paying attention.
I saw an item in a newspaper that indicated that Windows 7 does not include an email program.
Are there advantages to using Windows Live Essentials rather than, say, Thunderbird, or some other 3rd party email program?
Disadvantages?
I use Thunderbird. But Windows Live Mail is alright too.
Windows Live Mail will probably be the best choice if you're going to use it with a Windows Live account.
Me? I just use Gmail to collect all the mail from my other accounts, including Live. One inbox with each account given its own label. I no longer have to backup or restore my mail when I do every ~30 day re-installations. One less application for me to install. This is also why I now use Meebo.com for my IM client.
I put Windows Live Mail on my wife's machine because it was moving from XP (Outlook Express) and I wanted a program that would (1) transfer her accounts and settings; (2) look somewhat like OE; and (3) have a good junk mail filter.
When I put Windows Live Mail on her XP system, it automagically transferred OE over - everything but the account passwords. I then saved it to offline storage (via KLS Mail Backup - Freeware Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, Firefox backup) and upgraded her system to Windows 7 RC. I put Windows Live Mail on it, let it set up, and then did a restore of the saved Windows Live Mail folders. Taa da! Re-insert the passwords and go.
According to the thing I read, Windows 7 does not have Windows Mail.
You are right, windows does not come with an email client. The above mentioned software is all thrid party software what other users have suggested for you as an alternative. Windows live mail seems to be the first choice for most users. However you can also install windows mail which was part of vista if you have access to the files needed. Personally I prefer Live Mail over Mail, mainly because I use RSS feeds and newsgroups.
yes of course the cpu usage would go up because its updating your rss feeds!
