Windows 7: SMTP Problem

64-bit Windows 8.1 Pro

Make sure you set your smtp port is set to 993 and that you have SSL selected... Of course this is for thunderbird/Gmail....

Windows 7

My ISP has the default setting of port 110 for SMTP. 993 does not work. The default works fine for Vista but problems in W7.

I have tried everything. Also just to clarify it's an exchange email account hosted with Sherweb. I can send emails all day but when I try to email something with a attachment over a certin size bam it just sits in my outbox for ever then sometimes it disappears but never send to the intended recipenent. Also if I start to send a attachment and a regular mail with no attachment the regular mail goes out even while the attachment mail is trying to send.

I am stumped...any sugestions would be appreciated....
Also have tried server timeout and nothing.
Does any of the information here help you?

That port, 110, is used for the incoming or POP3 server. The outgoing, or SMTP server, uses port 25.

I have successfully emailed myself with an attachment of 548KB (actually one of the sample pictures). This is on W7 Pro 64-bit and Outlook 2007 with SP2.

Windows 7 SP1 x64

I have used Office 2003 and 2007 in W7 with no problems. I use POP port 995 and SMTP port of 465 with SSL selected for my Gmail access.

That is highly unlikely since they sell e-mail clients with their Office Suite and bundle them with Windows.

I am currently running Outlook 2007 on Windows 7 64-Bit Home Premium with no issues at all.

Figured it out!

Thanks all! After a long and patient conversation with my provider - Comcast - it turns out they changed the outgoing port from 25 to 587 for some McAfee security reasons. So it wasn't Win7 afterall. (Oops!)

Win7 Home

I've been asking in the Thunderbird Support forum and no answer so far. I can't send any mail using TB on my new Win7 machine. The exact same setup on XP works fine. Error message is “Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct . . . .”

Anyone have a clue??
