How'd you take the battery out of your iPhone?

Have you found the Settings/Mail/Your account/Advanced/Settings for incoming mail-> delete from server-> "never"?

I hollered down to my wife to take the battery out of the phone. Didn't inquire as her methodology. And no, I did not look at the setting option you provided. Tomorrow.

No problem, I was just curious, I can't take the battery out of my iPhone 4s without some disassembly.

send a mail to yourself with WLM and get mail from server, the sent mail come in. Then 10 minutes later get mail using WM. It gets the same mail. Mail is still on server?

Send a mail to yourself on the phone , the mail comes in in your phone inbox. Is it still on the server?
