Mozilla Firefox, error "The connection was reset"

Hi, I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. Toshiba Laptop.

I recently upgraded to the new version of Mozilla Firefox (23.0.1) and when I tried to go on Facebook it came up with this error:

The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

  • The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.
  • If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.
  • If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
I also noticed that it would not go to www.google.com either.

I have tried clearing the cache, cookies, offline web content, user data and I also checked the box "No Proxy" because I don't have a proxy sever. Still no luck .

I think there might be something wrong with the http or https?

If anyone has any suggestions of how to fix this, I would appreciate it a lot .

Hi UsernameIssues, thanks for posting!

I have tried resetting Firefox, testing Firefox with a new user profile and re-installing Firefox.
Still no luck

I am beginning to think it is a bug with the new version of Firefox or something?
Not exactly sure though, I tried downgrading to FF version 22.0 but the same error showed up.

Any other suggestions?

I updated Firefox when I saw your post and I had no issues.

When you re-installed, did you uninstall first? If you un-installed, did you tell it to remove your personal data and customizations?

Does IE work? When you re-installed, did you have it import settings from IE?

Yes I uninstalled Firefox first, I checked the box that said to remove your personal data and customizations. I didn't import any settings from IE.

IE works fine with Google and Facebook. I am using it to post and reply at the moment.

But one thing that was interesting, when I went to www.sevenforums.com on FF it worked perfectly.
FF seems to work on most websites, but shows the error on others. It also shows the error when I try to go on the Mozilla Community Forum.

You might try to re-install and let it import from IE - that really should not matter, but it is worth a shot.

The safe mode should not matter either since this is a fresh install (presumably without a lot of plug ins):

You might also try uninstalling (not just disabling) Norton Internet Security - just as a test.

I tried doing all of the above, still doesn't make a difference.

Something wrong with Firefox connecting to the internet?

It sounds like some security software (or malware) is preventing Firefox (and only Firefox) from getting to certain websites.

If you still have Norton Internet Security uninstalled, then temporarily disable the Windows Firewall and test your connectivity within Firefox. You might want to install Microsoft Security Essentials while we work on this.

Try the site in Safe Mode with Networking

Safe Mode

See if it works there. If it does, this is not a workaround, it is just for testing. If it works in safe mode. try a clean start to see if there is a conflict.

Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Since all you did was install the latest version (I updated mine, but just over the top of the older), it seems unlikely it is something external interfering.
