Cannot view images in emails inside any browser.

So I'm helping a friend with this strange issue. Please excuse my poor description on this case. So basically on firefox, IE, Chrome. We cannot view any attached or embedded images on his outlook.com or gmail.com . I reset and re-installed all browsers, did a reset to IE. Ran malwarebytes and AVG antivirus for any known issues--shows nothing.

Oh, he did a full factory recovery 2 days prior to this issue as well. Still no luck, cannot get any images on these emails to show. It just displays either a grey box, or a blank box with a small image, or a small red x. The strange thing is, the program windows live mail does show these images just fine, just not in any browser period. I tried to run compatibility mode added the websites as security trusted websites. still no way to show the images on any browser. Any suggestions on what could be this issue?

Welcome to Seven Forums rager. This is an odd one because it's multiple browsers and multiple email providers. Do you see the images on your machine if the emails are forwarded to you? Try this on the affected machine. Boot to Safe mode with networking and see if images display in safe mode. If so, perform a clean start to see if something is conflicting (perhaps a security software with email scanning).

I just found out that I myself, on my own computer, cannot view these forwarded images... yet on his computer windows live mail shows everything? Very strange...

But normally you can view images in your email? Just the forwarded emails from your friend do not show? I'd try my suggestions above and see what the result is. Likely the forwarded images would not show for you in safe mode with networking either if they have been stripped out by a security program on his PC.

Looking at his email directly by the way, same results no way to view the images. I think what you suspect maybe true, his last antivirus was norton though... I uninstalled it then put on AVG.

Was the AV change just before this issue began? Did you remove Norton using the Norton Removal Tool? A good thing to try in any case. Leftover remnants can wreak havoc if they conflict with the current AV program.

It is one of the worst offenders, but tell the truth, many AV programs require a removal tool these days.

Ok, well I won't be able to resolve this issue till Tuesday. I really hope it's a security issue from Norton that was removing all images from his email. If this fails, I guess another FFR with the recovery discs will be my final option.
