Thank you A Guy for the answer. I sure learn a thing or two from A Guy.
    Well cicimi,
IE 10 is configured rather differently from the IE of the past. MS sure make life difficult for some of us.

How do I disable selective browser history deletion?
You mean you want to delete all browser history or keep all browser history?

    You can read this
Disable "Delete Browsing History" in Windows 7 Home Premium

I don't really know the answer for IE10 as older IE 4 to 6 allowed selective browser history deletion.
Older IE 4 to 6 even had dates and time of browsing kept.

Everyone recommends InPrivate Browsing whereas I prefer Google Chrome to allow selective browser history deletion.
However, Google Chrome only keeps 30 days of history, after that auto delete the history.

You can read this old article at

I pretty much don't want my history to be deleted at all in any way possible. I disabled the delete history button but IE 10 still allows selective browser deletion. I'm trying to find a solution to that. Thanks.
Just like me, I pretty much don't want my history to be deleted at all because I can keep selectively visiting some sites without remembering the urls. Fiddling with the gpedit can be dangerous as some functions can be impeded.Tread carefully!

Bookmarking pages is a better method then relying on history which could conceivably disappear at any time. A Guy

Very true indeed! but I don't want a bloated bookmark or favourites on the either side or the top. That's why Cicimi like me don't want the history to be erased or deleted.

    I'm just curious.
Why does one want to save browser history?
What does one do with the history that is saved?
Some people use it as "short term" bookmarks - say for a week or two. Favorites are for long term info. I cannot defend doing that, I'm just reporting what I've heard people tell me when I ask them if I can reset IE. I've also seen people that keep the history window pinned open. They refuse to use tabs, so every click is deeper down a path. The History listing lets them jump back to a place on that Z axis. The history in the forward/back arrows is not deep enough.

Some people start asking about this type of "history preservation" thing when they think that it is a practical way to monitor children or porn addicts. They eventually see that it does not work well for those purposes.

I go to the other extreme. I keep IE clear of cookies/data that can impact how a webpage is rendered. IE is where I test links before posting them. Especially ones that I've removed junk from.

    @cicimi,
If monitoring another person is the goal, then there are too many places on the web detailing how to avoid being monitored. If this desire to preserve the history like they were bookmarks - then you are headed in the right direction. You need software (WinRAR or 7-Zip) to decompress the Enable Group Policy file. The W7 OS will not open it natively.
