Do you need to update Java, or possibly work in compatibility mode with IE8? <-- click on tools, it's in the dropdown list.

You may also be experiencing problems coming from your firewall or antivirus/antispyware programs.

Type eventvwr in the 'start search box', click on the icon and see what the events are in relation to Internet Explorer.

Go back to that good, early period with system restore. Type system restore in the search box, by start menu.

Not responding - fixed

Just got a new computer with Windows 7 x64. Constantly was getting "Not responding" on IE8 as well as some programs.

Found a mention and tried these:
Installed Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from Microsoft. (even though Win 7 was already on the computer). AND in your IE8 click on the Compatibility Settings and check "Display all windows in Compatibility View"

I haven't had a problem with "not responding" since! Hope this works for you.

I beleive the problem to be a conflict of some sort with antivirus and Windows 7 updates.
After many frustrating "not Responding" message when using Firefox, IE8, and Outlook I decided to do a full fresh reinstall. Experienced the same "Not Responding" issues after all that.
I did some research and heard tha taking out the AntiVirus program maybe the fix. Uninstalled my AV (Eset Nod 32)and so far so good. Not one "Not Responding" message seen. I currently have IE8, Firefox and Outlook open and running. Guess next move is tooi wait and see, then try reinstalling the AV and see what happens.

There is much to be said for your experience, 'V' (I like that show.)

I had Zone Alarm Extreme Security on my Win7 64 bit and it 'borked' IE8 with lockups, Opera 10.5 with system hard locks and Firefox 3.6 with various maladies. I ended up re-loading the OS and keeping all the apps I use as Microsoft only, with the exception of 7Zip. I have been rewarded with a stable and fast OS, with a stable and responsive IE8. AV is handled with MSE and my disk maintenance and backups are handled with the on-board tools.

My lesson re-learned, is that no one knows an MS operating system better than Microsoft. This time, the lesson only cost $50 and a bit of time. :o

All the hardware works perfectly with Win7. Index of 6.7 with Gigabyte HD 4670 graphics.
I have reinstalled my anti virus software and found in the process that it did not like Microsoft Security Essentials. My dillema is this - which to use? I figure that since I pay a subrcription for one I might as well use it, so off with MSE and on with my AV. Reboot andback to perfection.:D
