restoring fovered links

I received a notice that Firefox needed to reinstall itself, and now all my favoured links are gone from the star menu. Is there a way to get them back?

You better scan your system with a couple of virus scanners.

I have found that if you have the Firefox Advanced update setting set to this:

restoring fovered links-ffupd.jpg

Firefox will create a pop-up and show it to you while you are using the browser, asking you whether you want to update immediately.

You do have the option to click on OK or Cancel. If you do click on OK Firefox will then update and try to restore you to your last known browser session.
I have also found that this feature will work haphazardly; sometimes it will show when there is an update sometimes it won't, and sometimes it fails to restore the session. I usually cancel and update after my session.

This setting can be found in (FF26.0) at Tools\Options\Advanced\Update Tab

Now, to the problem.

Are you talking about the star in the URL bar where the web addresses show up?
This may help: drop down arrow that allows you to see previous pages viewed If not maybe you can tell us more, if not you may need to do a reset.

Read up and familiarize yourself with Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems

It is imperative that you back up your present Firefox profile before you take any steps to reset Firefox, just in case something goes wrong with the reset.

Scanning your machine for malware is still a good idea.

But you said before: "I received a notice that Firefox needed to reinstall itself"

Yes, I know of no program which will tell you to reinstall with no interaction from you.
