QTrax internet explorer popup

Hi, I seem to be getting a popup on my computer that advertises the QTrax music player every now and again. It seems to pop up just randomly. For example I can turn the computer on and leave it for about 20 - 30 minutes and when I come back I will see the QTrax pop up appear. Has anyone experienced this or know how to get rid of it?

I have no idea how this came to be on my computer.

Have downloaded anything from Softonic or Cnet lately ?
Probably some addware ?
Review Jacee’s instructions to run Adwcleaner here,

Instant Savings App

You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
Uncheck the box to Activate the Free trial from the final install options,

This one is the longest up to 4 hours, the others are only about 45 minutes,

I downloaded and run AdwCleaner and it has removed a few entries from the registry so hopefully that will sort out the problem. Incidentally I ran Microsoft security essentials before this and that never seemed to pick anything up.

Not sure how I got this but I think it may have been from trying to download a program from the internet and then finding myself on those download pages with more than one download button. Most of these turn out to be adverts and I think I accidentally installed a program called Zip Extractor. In fact I nearly downloaded the same thing trying to get AdwCleaner. Those kind of sponsored adverts should be banned!

Anyway hopefully that's the problem dealt with. Thanks ThrashZone.

Your welcome,
You should post the text report generated by Adwcleaner so others can see if another follow up scanner is needed,
But Yes site downloads can be very annoying with multiple download links,
Cheers.

I would go ahead and run the two other scanners just to see if they find anything Malwarebytes and Superantispyware,
I believe the downloads are allot cleaner as far as which download button to choose
If they find anything post the reports,
Cheers.

Just to be clear I did not download and install Qtrax player, I'm just getting internet explorer popups advertising various things - QTrax player being one of the main ones. My personal guess is that I got this through downloading something called zip extractor which I accidentally installed on my machine.

Anyway as ThrashZone suggested I downloaded the other programs and ran them too. Malware bytes picked something up and cleaned it. After that I ran superantispyware and it didn't pick anything up. I will probably run Malware bytes again at some point but at this moment I'm not getting any more pop ups so I think it's safe to say that this is no longer a problem.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Generally you don't knowingly download it. It's malware/adware plain and simple. Everyone who has had it I have ever seen, never knowingly downloaded it. A Guy
