RE what email address I use. I have a gmail acct but depend on my own domain name which I get pretty cheap. Gives me a unique email address and as long as I keep paying for it, works.
Outlook.com is another free email service but I don't trust them either as I understand it is a throwback from Hotmail.

Many people who have an ISP can get an email thru that vendor or your phone provider sometimes has an email that you can use. But some people change their phone provider like their underwear so that might not work.

So, the answer is not simple. Free is not always good or really free. Pay up to (almost) guarantee that your email will be there when you need it.

I hadn't though of my ISP email, I do have one but have never used it, good thought.
I agree on Outlook, looks like Win 8 blue tiles and it's just a devolved Hotmail. I accept session cookies, block all 3rd party and run CCleaner often.

I don't use 'free' yahoo mail... I've had an account with "yahoo Plus" for many years. They've said my Plus account is also activated (carried over) to their Premium account for $49 a year. Nice crap!
I won't be extending it after 9/14 when they want a renewal.

Make sure you notify them Jacee, I had their paid mail once, and it was on auto pay, the only way it could be done at the time. They depend on users forgetting it and letting it renew.

Geez, I haven't checked my yahoo for quite awhile, it's a secondary acct. but it came in handy a few times.

I'm getting a bit spooked about email clients to choose from. I'm also anti Google so won't use gmail, tried Thunderbird, didn't like it, same goes for Eudora. Am currently using WindowsMail but wouldn't mind having another one 'just in case' but have also read of many issues with WindowsLiveMail so haven't even tried it. As much as I didn't want to, I even went back to Incredimail once after losing OutlookExpress but I have 3 different addy's & only wanted it for 1 but it took all of them. I do use my ISP to see what's new before downloading into WM, that way I can just delete what I don't want right there.
That would be a good project for some of the gurus here, develop a good email client for the rest of us to use.
