Windows Mail mshtml.dll crash

Thanks Slartybart just trying to think out of the box for ideas its at least good to know Win Mail works in text only so it does help eliminate some things hopefully...... yes Endeavor had suggested that so I wanted to get back to yall with the results........yes he had mentioned the guilty emails I sent worked fine for him and as I mentioned the same emails work for me in Win Mail in read text only

It's interesting that you mention video drivers and I did think of and hinted to you about it in my post #28 about getting to the real problem. I actually wrote myself a note yesterday because of what I saw your BestBuy email do but never posted it since I thought you and andjiyik were moving on from WM, which is fine since most everyone advises you to do that.

Anyway I wondered about video drivers but since I saw there is no complicated active content within that email then I decided not to post about it, and again thought you were long gone. Anyway, here is what I wondered and have seen this happen. For IE it uses itself in the process for website content rendering, and since video renders are done either via software or hardware GPU rendering depending, you can see where yours is set by looking at your 'Internet Explorer' IO (Internet Options) settings.
Here I was thinking for older setups accessing "via" "WinMail.exe" to the internet for outside html content (your BestBuy email does, verified) ...that 'maybe' it's a video driver issue in conflict with WinMail etc, ....hard to believe you may think, nah, I've seen it at other times; but there's nothing to lose here, it's gotta be something, so why not try it and give it a go, to:
Internet Properties> Advanced> Accelerated Graphics> Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering (it'll be the first listing under that tab) ..checkmark or uncheck the box, depending... reboot! ...and give it a go.

If it stops it, then you can decide if you want to change your nVidia drivers to a 'Previous' version that's more compatible.

~It would be Much Better if you had a test computer setup to play, and/or use partition image backups so that you can 'software frolic' and be immune to complicating up your OS with unnecessary installs clutters.. you would just image it out in a few minutes.

Thanks for the info endeavor I will do that now and see how it goes..........I haven't bailed out yet certainly is frustrating but I would love to simply keep using WInMail appreciate your efforts Slartybart has been very helpful with alternative suggestions also which is also appreciated trying to keep the faith for now..........

I had meant to mention tktk88 earlier as a simple test, unplug your internet cable and then open that BestBuy email - if won't fully populate, but does it crash?
Also wondering do both of you have Facebook, Twitter, YouTube ..I saw they are linked within the email and so are you perhaps logged in to any of them at the time of crash?

At any rate as a general rule WinMail is getting outdated, it's files digsig of what we're using are dated back in 2008, and so at this point because of WinMail's non-development from Microsoft, if you have it set on read in HTML (I do) ..but for anyone else I would recommend not clicking links within HTML emails while within WinMail thus using it as the launchpad for Browser access (you can't do anything about automatic draws though, unless you set it to plain text) If needed 'right click' 'copy shortcut' on whatever link/place it shows, and paste that shortcut to Desktop and then proceed to go there via the Browser; iow, I would avoid using WinMail as the catalyst to launch Browser out connections. Remember, WinMail is not developed anymore and so don't expect all the fancy bell's and whistles of a modern 2014 internet to be compatible through a 2008 WinMail application to work fully. There Will Be Limitations! ...although there have been none for me and just the opposite, ymmv.
Move on to a more supported eMail Client !

thanks endeaor I did what you suggested we will see how it goes when I get another guilty email I will also try the internet disconnect thing.......we are old school don't use facebook twitter etc......I do view youtube videos at times but donthave an account or login to youtube

My point with the twitters was just looking to isolate any common trigger was all.

You don't have to wait for the next BestBuy email, just click to open the one you sent to me, it does Not need to be its original folder to check it.

Unfortunately I am deleting them as the occur so need to wait for the next one don't worry between the 2 I get them daily

Hello! I tried to catch the same bug (crash of mshtml.dll 11.0.9600.16476), reducing the size of the letter and locating the cause of crash in the original text. It seems that I was lucky :) Please rename the attached crashtest.eml.txt to crashtest.eml and attempt to open it in the mail program (e.g. double-click).

The crash occurs because of the line <body style="font-family: sans-serif"> instead of simple <body>. This style was in the letter which I received from Booking.com mail system. Format <body style="..."> is allowed in HTML5 as a global attribute. But even if mshtml parser cannot recognise it, this attribute should be simply ignored instead of causing the crash.

endeavor same crash with best buy this morning crashes with change made you suggested yesterday as well as on or offline however as we know if I set winmail to read text only I can get the same email fine here is the latest app crash info just for drill
