Thanks for testing with a new account.

When you install using the file from Filehippo, do you see a log file:
"C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\chrome_installer.log"

dumb question I'm sure but why can't you just restore to a date before you uninstalled chrome and start again ?

the file says [0125/164850:ERROR:setup_main.cc(627)] Already installed version 32.0.1700.76 at system-level conflicts with this one at user-level. and to you xs650 i say not everybody has the space to backup their computers files and even if i did i don't feel like spending hours every day backing up my computers hundreds of gigabytes of things.

@xs650,
Welcome to the Seven Forums. It is nice to see a first post that helps others. System Restore points work well sometimes, but not others. I use (and suggest) them as a last resort.

@Ldeathsoul,
Thanks for the log file info - Google turned up nothing :-(

Assuming that you still have the installer file on your desktop, try this:
open an elevated cmd prompt window
(Elevated Command Prompt)
use the following code inside that window
Code:
"C:\Users\username\Desktop\32.0.1700.76_chrome_installer.exe" --uninstall
Note:
If your username has a space(s), you will need the quotation marks shown above.
You can use shift-right-click on the exe...
...then select Copy as path to avoid typos. Right click in the cmd window and paste.
There is a space before the TWO hyphens/dashes.

Please post the contents of the log file after that attempt at uninstalling.
Then try to install again using the 32.0.1700.76_chrome_installer.exe file.
And post the contents of the log file again.

There are more things that we can try* if the steps above fail... but you might want to risk a System Restore if you don't want to put any more labor into this.
System Restore
or
System Restore Points - Manually Extract Files and Folders

*I can make a list of every place in the registry that I see Chrome and you can check those locations in case your registry search missed something. We can do the same thing with folders/files. I can try and walk you thru using Process Monitor to see what registry key or file the installer is finding that makes it think that Chrome is already installed. But Process Monitor shows about 31,000 registry and file related entries during the Chrome install. I've yet to filter on anything significant. However, your install terminates early, so there might be far fewer entries to read thru.

the file says Google Chrome not found for uninstall.
[0126/195547:ERROR:uninstall.cc(456)] Failed to delete folder: C:\Users\DEATH\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application
and it still wont install

Username: Revo?

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Free version, take normal precautions for installing freeware (watch for toolbars, etc)

Ldeathsoul: Username is guiding you - this is a suggestion to consider.
Don't take any action on Revo, yet.

I searched thinking the same thing. Found lots of stuff re: "remove.reg" but some pages have been removed and following one site's explanation didn't work (there again probably because of the page moves). I did not find the simple clean up tool that many apps provide.

You always find stuff that I can't maxie, give it a go and see what you find.

Just another thought, then I'll step back and let Username and Ldeathsoul work this through.

What is the default browser at this point?
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs

Good luck,

Bill
