Hitting the 'bookmarks' button in FF27, the list shows less than half

I'm running FF27 and up till yesterday, all was well.

When I fired up the computer this morning to go onto a particular site, on clicking the 'bookmarks' button at the top of the screen, I found that the list of perhaps 400 folders & url's had shrunk to 55. Pressing the 'down' arrow at the bottom of the list achieved nothing because the now-stationary bookmark list simply glared back at me.

I then clicked 'history' then the 'bookmarks menu' button and found all the url's were still listed so at least I now know they're not totally lost!

Then I deleted FF completely and re-installed it but there was no improvement ... the main list still only showed 55 so I'm at a bit of a loss.

I also went into 'about:config' to see if anything caught my eye as well as re-booted the computer a couple of times.

Perhaps I clicked a button that I shouldn't have which in turn, caused it to have a fit ... I don't know but I'm sure it has to be something simple.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Michael.

First, try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode. If all is well in that mode, restart, see if all is still well. If not, then Standard diagnostic - Firefox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base

Reinstalling Fx is almost always a waste of time, as nearly all problems are in the Fx profile, not in the program itself.

If need be, you can import one of your bookmark backup files, which are kept in the profile: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up...arks_-_Firefox

    'bookmarks' problem

was away for a few days to the mainland thus the delay with this update ...

as regards the partial loss of my bookmarks, i deleted my ff27 and re-installed it but got the same result as before.
then i managed to find a list of all the b/m (i save everything or try to) so decided to go into the ff library and correct the 'loss' the hard way ... copy and paste every url one at a time into the ff search field and when that site came up on screne, bookmark it ... and then move to the next url and repeat the process.
    easy to do but long-winded!!
i got to about 43 when we had a power cut ... very short as it came back quite quickly. when ff was back, it gave me the offer to 'restore' so i clicked that ... and my bookmark list was complete again ... nothing missing!
why - i have no idea ... but i have a smile on my face again.

many thanks for your suggestions ... very much appreciated.

    michael.

    FF Bookmarks

As you found out - the restore option will import backed up bookmarks that firefox backs up automatically.

Firefox could screw up again at some point so it's best to use any or all of the following methods:

    Periodically backup bookmarks.
    Make a system image backup.
Or copy your entire firefox profile using MozBackup - that way even if you need to fully remove and reinstall firefox you can restore your current profile.
