Add new email account and IE

I have a bit of a strange problem which I'm having difficulty in resolving........

Helping a friend who has just become VirginMedia cable customer having previously been with TalkTalk.

They are running Windows 7 and IE11 plus Windows Live Mail 2012 as a client mail system. Windows Live Mail now has mail accounts for Virgin and TalkTalk. They have yet to close the TalkTalk service so when connected to that network and mail tested, everything OK, being able to send and receive from each account.

However, when connected to the Virgin Network, they cannot/couldn't send from their TalkTalk account. Help was sought from VirginMedia Community Forum and eventually resolved. Issue was one of Virgin security and required using Virgin webmail account to "Add an email account you already own" i.e. the TalkTalk account. Initially this didn't work as clicking the link using the IE11 browser nothing happened. Clicking other links on the page resulted in either nothing happening or they got double blank pages showing (?). It was suggested using a different browser. Google Chrome was downloaded and installed and lo and behold everything was fine. TalkTalk account added, tested and they can send and receive when connected to the Virgin network

Assumed issue resides with IE11, though what this is, I've no idea. I uninstalled IE11 and reverted to IE10 but the issue of trying to "add an email account you already own" still persists. Is the problem with IE? Would going back to IE9 make a difference? Is the problem due to missing/corrupt update? or is the problem residing within Windows 7?

Really would appreciate some help on resolving this.

Hi there ... I would imagine your problem would be resolved when the Talk Talk account is closed .. I think its takes about 13 weeks .. If i was you I would do nothing till then continue using Chrome .. If you did manage to get IE fixed you could still have problems when Talk Talk is gone ... Maybe some other Member might have a better solution ..

maxi, thanks for response. When the TalkTalk service is closed and there is no physical network connection, the email address will be continued to be used. Yes, IE could be abandoned for some other browser and everything continue to work as now but that doesn't overcome the problem that inherently exists. My friend has always used IE and I have a feeling would like to continue.

***** ran sic /scannow in elevated mode and saved sfcdetail.log to desktop. There doesn't Appear to be any problems with system files. There was an issue not related to any file that was repaired - something to do with AMD processor which was not understood as system is intel based. Whatever it was it was repaired.
