I am running windows 7 home premium 64bit and ever since I upgraded to IE 11 I am constantly having problems with it. For example if I am on Yahoo home page and click to view a story the page locks up and won't load and I get a message that it needs to close. Any ideas on this?
Check if there any know issues with this level of IE but the simplest solution may be to go back to a previous level that did not give you these problems. I stopped using IE years ago as I could never get it to work as I'd like and always attracted malware etc - you should try Firefox or Chrome.

Actually you might check out post #7 here,
IE immediately crashes.
Avast looks like it up to it's old tricks by crashing internet explorer,
Not that it's wise to surf Yahoo anything without an Antivirus activated but you might consider switching to Panda like others have,

Another thought is to see what type of Browser add-ons Avast has installed,
Gear symbol/ Manage add-ons,
On the left column on the bottom click on Show and click on All Add-ons,
Toolbars and Extensions see what is listed and Disable any Avast add-ons and test the issue,
You don't need Avast browser add-ons if they exist,
Internet explorer security features clash with Avast ones,
